A method for detecting and reducing motion sensor reading errors is disclosed. The method relates to receiving characteristics such as an athlete's body mass index and physiological characteristics such as heart rate. A protocol, such as a heart rate measurement protocol, is selected based on the body mass index or other parameter being out of range.
