The invention relates to a isolated strain of Lactobacillus species for treating a syndrome and a complication of an autoimmune disease, and the isolated strain of the Lactobacillus species is at least one selected from the group consisting of Lactobacillus paracasei strain GMNL-32 (GM-080), Lactobacillus reuteri strain GMNL-89, Lactobacillus reuteri GMNL-263 and any combinations thereof. The invention may relate to a lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strain used for preparation of medical compositions for treating a syndrome and a complication of an autoimmune disease, the compositions comprising an effective amount of a LAB strain and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. The invention may relate to associated LAB-containing compositions, and methods of treating a syndrome and a related complication of an autoimmune disease comprising administering LAB-containing compositions. Preferably, the autoimmune disease is systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and the related complication is a cardiac and hepatic disease induced by the autoimmune diseases.
