A mashing tank (1) for the preparation of wine consists of a container with a cylindrical centre section (3) with converging conical top (2) and bottom (4) sections. The tank is supported by horizontal pivots (7) supported by upright posts (8). The tank has an inlet (5) and an outlet (9) for mashed grapes. The tank may be rotated through 360 degrees. Preferably the tank has heating/cooling jackets.
