Provide is a polynucleotide or the like having RNA interference activity and which is stable with respect to RNA splitting enzyme. This single-strand polynucleotide is derived from a double-strand polynucleotide having a sense strand polynucleotide for a target gene, and an antisense strand polynucleotide having a complementary base sequence to said sense strand polynucleotide, and has a structure wherein the 5' terminal of this antisense strand and the 3' terminal of the sense strand are respectively bonded by a linker containing a phenyl group that forms a phosphodiester structure.
