1530785 Treating metal scrap BRITISH STEEL CORP 6 Aug 1976 [7 Aug 1975] 33079/75 Addition to 1381726 Heading C7D [Also in Division F4] Metal scrap is cooled to embrittlement temperature by contact with a primary cooling gas and is then fragmented. The primary gas is cooled by passage through a heat exchanger 10 supplied with a secondary coolant which is partially gaseous and partially in the liquid form, the secondary coolent leaving the exchanger in the gaseous state. The secondary coolant is obtained in part directly from a refrigeration plant 8 and in part from a liquid storage vessel 6 which is replenished by a liquifier 11 in series with the refrigeration plant. Preferably the replenishment is carried out during interruptions in the scrap cooling operation.
