PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive and small-size personal authentication apparatus being applied to various purposes and simplifying the assembling and maintenance.SOLUTION: This personal authentication apparatus 100 of a finger vein type is provided with a light illumination section 34 illuminating a light to a finger of a living body, an imaging section 21 detecting the transmitted light from the finger and capturing the image of the finger vein, a vein pattern extraction means extracting the finger vein pattern from the image obtained by the imaging part, and an image computing section comparing the extracted finger vein pattern with a pre-registered finger vein pattern.
