PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact authentication device highly resistant to external light and giving the user no feeling of pressure against him/her when photographing the patterns of blood vessels of his/her finger using the light transmitting it.SOLUTION: The device includes a finger position guide 118, a light source 114 provided at one or both sides of the guide for irradiation with light to transmit the finger, a photographing part 112 to image the finger-transmitting light, and a light shield means 116 to restrict the irradiated area with light emitted from the light source. Further, a means to measure the thickness of the finger, and a means to control the quantity of light from the light source according to the measurement results.
