A method for determining the exterior type of dairy cattle includes taking measurements, calculating indices of organization of the body and the following analysis of the obtained data. The breast depth and withers height are measured in animals, and the index of exterior type (IET) is calculated according to the formula for each animal unit assessed, the obtained levels of the indices are analyzed. The animals which IET is within the range of 53-55% belong to the dairy exterior type, and those which IET is within the range of 55.5-57% belong to the combined exterior type.
