The invention concerns surgical sutures and the manufacture therof, and in particular relates to a one-way suture which has barb elements enabling the suture to be pulled through tissue in one direction, but resisting movement in the opposite direction. The suture is useful in surgical methods which include closing wounds, tissue support and repair of internal tissues such as tendons and ligaments.
