The device has a stopper comprising a conical shape, where the stopper is introduced inside a neck opening of a container. The stopper is provided with a descending injection tube that is connected to a source of gas e.g. nitrogen or carbon dioxide, and the stopper is provided with an escape route in case of overpressure. A volume of product e.g. food, in the container is measured, and the tube is provided with an upstream part. An independent claim is also included for a method for achieving a controlled atmosphere in the headspace of a container for storing a product.
