A surgical implant includes a rod or guide, initially deployed to the surgical site, over which segments are deployed, typically by sliding and advancing the segments along or over the rod or guide. The rod is typically of a predefined curvature, which defines the shape of the implant. The rod deflects or orients into this predefined curvature upon its deployment at the surgical site.
