A cooling unit is provided in a storage section to locally COOL a HEAT generating portion of an imaging device and to thereby reduction nonuniformity of the distribution of the temperature in the imaging device. Detectors detect a mount orientation of the imaging device, that is and whether the imaging device is mounted in landscape orientation or portrait orientation. Cooling portions of the cooling unit are selectively driven ON the basis of the detection result.
