The present invention relates to a water-in-oil surfactant consisting of a mixture of compounds of formula (I): the compound of formula (I) having an average degree of polymerization n of between 4 and 6, R1, R2 and R3 being, independently one from the other, a hydrogen atom or an R4 group derived from at least one carboxylic acid, the carboxylic acid being 12-hydroxystearic acid or ricinoleic acid or their mixtures. The present invention also relates to a surfactant composition and a cosmetic composition comprising this surfactant. La présente invention concerne un tensioactif eau dans huile constitué d'un mélange de composés de formule (I) : le composé de formule (I) ayant un degré de polymérisation moyen n compris entre 4 et 6, R1, R2 et R3 étant, indépendamment l'un de l'autre, un atome d'hydrogène ou un groupement R4 dérivé d'au moins un acide carboxylique, l'acide carboxylique étant l'acide 12-hydroxystéarique ou l'acide ricinoléique ou leurs mélanges. La présente invention concerne également une composition tensioactive et une composition cosmétique comprenant ce tensioactif.
