The invention relates to a sound transducer for receiving underwater sound waves, having an acoustic transducer element and a cover plate. The cover plate has a recess and at least one parameter, and the parameter is a thickness and/or a material and/or a geometric arrangement of the cover plate. The cover plate is paired with the acoustic transducer element such that an underwater sound wave impinges upon both the cover plate as well as the acoustic transducer element. The at least one parameter is set such that an angle dependence of a sound reflection is adjusted for an impinging underwater sound wave so as to increase the sensitivity of the sound transducer.
