The present invention discloses a composition suitable for the activation of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) response element in a subject. A herbaceous plant composition for preventing and improving osteopenia and osteoporosis particularly relates to effective parts in the Chinese herbal medicine and a preparation method thereof. The active substances in the composition consist of I) Epimedium, II) Drynaria, and III) at least one of Angelica L., Salvia L., and Lycium L. In some application schemes, the composition consist of the active substances of Epimedium, Drynaria, and at least one of Angelica L., Salvia L., and Lycium L. In a first application scheme, the active substances of the composition consist of Epimedium, Drynaria, and Angelica L. In a second application scheme, the active substances of the composition consist of Epimedium, Drynaria, and Salvia L. In a third application scheme, the active substances of the composition consist of Epimedium, Drynaria, and Lycium L. In each application scheme, the composition comprises the active substances and at least one inactive substance. The invention also discloses a preparation method of the composition.
