A method of purification of fucoidane from a heterogeneous mixture, the process comprising: (a) providing a source of fucoidane； (b) removing heavy metal ions from said source by treating with a chelating agent to produce a first mixture of fucoidane； (c) selectively precipitating the fucoidane present in said first mixture of fucoidane to remove contaminants； (d) resuspend the precipitate containing fucoidane in aqueous solution to produce a second mixture of fucoidane； (e) repeat steps (c) and (d) one or more times； and (f) filtering the aqueous solution comprising fucoidane to remove bacterial and endotoxin contaminants to give purified fucoidane.Un procedimiento de purificación de fucoidano de una mezcla heterogénea, comprendiendo el procedimiento: (a) proporcionar una fuente de fucoidano； (b) eliminar iones de metales pesados de dicha fuente tratando con un agente quelante para producir una primera mezcla de fucoidano； (c) precipitar selectivamente el fucoidano presente en dicha primera mezcla de fucoidano para eliminar contaminantes； (d) resuspender el precipitado que contiene fucoidano en disolución acuosa para producir una segunda mezcla de fucoidano； (e) repetir las etapas (c) y (d) una o más veces； y (f) filtrar la disolución acuosa que comprende fucoidano para eliminar contaminantes bacterianos y de endotoxinas para dar fucoidano purificado.
