PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To further improve the efficiency of surgical procedures in a surgical hardware and software monitoring system.SOLUTION: A surgical hardware and software monitoring system allows for surgical planning if there is enough room for the patients surgery, for example, while the patient is being prepared for surgery so that the system may model the surgical site. A tracker 508 obtains image information, with a controller configured to spatially relate the image information with previously obtained scan data. A fiducial reference 502 is configured for removably attaching to a location proximate a surgical site.
