PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide high purity ferric citrate not substantially including β iron oxide hydroxide.SOLUTION: Provided is a production method comprising: a step where ferric chloride and sodium hydroxide are contacted in an aqueous medium within 2 hr and also at a liquid temperate in the range of 0 to 10°C to form iron-containing precipitates; a step where citric acid and the iron-containing precipitates are contacted in an aqueous medium, and thereafter, heating is caused to form a ferric citrate aqueous solution; and a step where the ferric citrate aqueous solution and an organic solvent are contacted to precipitate ferric citrate.
