An antimicrobial eyelid cleanser composition contains: (a) a hypohalous acid； (b) one or more surfactants having a HLB value of 5 to 18； and (c) an aqueous vehicle, the aqueous vehicle comprising: (i) one or more tonicity adjusters； (ii) one or more osmolality adjusters for adjusting an osmolality of the composition； and (iii) one or more pH adjusters for maintaining the pH of the composition at between about 4.5 to about 8.0. The composition can be dispensed in a foam, liquid, spray, mist, gel or lotion form.
