A brake plate assembly (51, 52, 53, 54) in a drag mechanism (23) of a fishing reel (100) includes a first brake plate (61, 71) and a second brake plate (62, 72). The first brake plate (61, 71) has a first bonding surface (61a, 71a). The second brake plate (62, 72) has a second bonding surface (62a, 72a) bonded to the first bonding surface (61a, 71a), and has greater wear resistance than that of the first brake plate (61, 71).
