The device comprises a sleeve, having an open end to receive, or fit over, a portion of the item. The sleeve has a lower sheet, which acts as an encasement about a lower surface of the item, and a foldable upper sheet releasably engaged with the lower sheet, and which partially covers the upper surface of the item. The device further includes an adjustable strap attached to opposite sides of the lower sheet to enable the sleeve to secure about the item, such that only a portion of the item is received within the sleeve. The upper sheet is releasably engaged to the remainder of the sleeve such that the upper sheet is able to fold away in its entirety from the sleeve and uncover the baby. The upper sheet comprises two layers, and includes a closable opening extending through one of the two layers for receiving a supplementary blanket (9) therebetween. This advantageously prevents multiple layers of bedding becoming tangled, thereby reducing the risk of a baby&rsquos face becoming covered.
