Die Erfindung betrifft ein Gerät (2) zur Materialbearbeitung, insbesondere ein medizinisches Behandlungsgerät, mit einer Vorrichtung (6) zur Übertragung eines eine Pulsdauer aufweisenden Laserpulses an einen Austrittsort (18), mit einem Lichtwellenleiter (12) und einem diesem nachgeschalteten Kompressor (16), der die Pulsdauer reduziert, sowie ein Verfahren zur Materialbearbeitung mit einem solchen Gerät (2).
