The disclosed subject matter is directed to a wheelchair. The wheelchair comprises a plastic molded seating unit having a seat portion. The seat portion configured for articulating over two parallely extending horizontal mounting support beams of a support frame the support frame configured to withstand a load applied over the seating unit. The wheelchair further comprising a pair of main wheels each independently secured to the support frame through a respective axle and at least one front swivel wheel. At least one brake assembly for controlling the operation of at least one of the main wheels is further provided.
