A food for human consumption consists of chopped or shredded sugar beet fried in fat at a temperature of over 150C, e.g. 200C, or baked or dried in air. In an alternative embodiment the sugar beet is pureed and extruded to cake form prior to cooking in deep hot fat. In further embodiments the sugar beet is prepared as powder, cut to sticks or chip-form.
