PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a user holding device that can be adjusted to hold a user at many different positions including a lying position and a sitting position, and at an intermediate position between the lying position and the sitting position.SOLUTION: A users physiological reaction can be sensed using one or more sensors carried by, mounted on, or attached to, the user, a user holding device, or other devices. A calculation device such as a bed control device can generate an index of the users condition based on one or more items of sensor input.
