A cutting tool (10) for use with a stump cutting apparatus of the type utilizing a cutting wheel or drum rotating about a rotational axis wherein the cutting tool is removably attached to the cutting wheel or drum. The cutting tool comprises a tool holder (14), said tool holder (14) having a base portion (20) with first and second apertures (60, 62) and a head portion (28) having a boss (42). The boss (42) has first and second ends (44, 46) and an aperture (48) extending between said first and second ends (44, 46) as well as first and second shoulders (50) located adjacent the first and second ends (44, 46) of the boss (42). The present invention also relates to a method for configuring the shape of a tool holder (14) for use in attaching a cutting tool (10) to a cutting wheel (12) of a stump cutting apparatus.
