A pair of garden secateurs 10 for cutting in places which are difficult to reach, comprises a cutting blade 11 and anvil 12 operated by handles 13 and 14 via relatively movable connecting members 15 and 16 which are longitudinally slidable relative to each other upon pivotal operation of handles 13 and 14. The blade 11 is integral with connecting member 15, whilst anvil 12 is integral with connecting member 16 and handle 14. The handle 13 is pivoted at 20 to the handle 14 and is pivoted at 21 to connecting member 15, so that closure of handle 13 towards handle 14 pulls the blade 11 down into engagement with the anvil 12.
