An object of the present invention is to provide a method for microbiologically producing astaxanthin of high concentration at low cost while suppressing production of canthaxanthin. Specifically, the present invention relates to a method for producing carotenoids including astaxanthin comprising culturing a bacterium that concurrently produces astaxanthin and canthaxanthin in a medium containing biotin, wherein a ratio of concentration of produced canthaxanthin to concentration of produced astaxanthin in a culture product after the end of culture in the medium is lower than that in a culture product after the end of culture in a biotin-free medium.본 발명의 목적은 칸탁산틴의 생성을 억제하면서 높은 농도의 아스탁산틴을 미생물학적으로 낮은 가격에서 제조하는 방법을 제공하는 것이다. 상세하게는, 본 발명은 배지에서 배양 완료 후의 배양 생성물 내 생성된 아스탁산틴 농도에 대한 생성된 칸탁산틴의 농도 비율이 바이오틴-없는 배지에서 배양 완료 후의 배양 생성물 내 농도보다 낮은 것을 특징으로 하는, 바이오틴 함유 배지에서 아스탁산틴과 칸탁산틴을 동시에 생성하는 박테리아를 배양하는 단계를 포함하는 아스탁산틴을 함유한 카로테노이드의 제조방법에 관한 것이다.
