The disclosure relates to a method comprising: electron beam irradiating a biomass material comprising a genetically modified corn or soybean which has been irradiated with a radiation dose of between 10 Mrad and about 150 Mrad； and producing a sugar by the saccharification of the electron beam irradiated biomass material. The sugar may be selected from the group consisting of glucose, xylose, arabinose, mannose, and galactose.
