PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an underpants type absorbent article having an excellent fitting property to a skin, having both inner and outer surfaces with softness and favorable texture, and, when pulling it up, being unlikely to cause structural disorder.SOLUTION: The disposable diaper includes: a ventral part A disposed at the abdominal side of a wearer a dorsal part B disposed at the back side of the wearer and a crotch part C located between the ventral part and the dorsal part. A waist area A2 of at least the ventral part A of the ventral part A and the dorsal part B has a multi-layer area R where an outermost-layer sheet 12 forming the outermost surface of the diaper, an innermost-layer sheet 15 forming the innermost surface in contact with the skin of the wearer, and an intermediate sheet 14 located between the outermost-layer sheet and the innermost-layer sheet are superposed in the thickness direction. The intermediate sheet 13 has a non-fixed area R1 that is not fixed to any of the outermost-layer sheet 12 and the innermost-layer sheet 15 in the multi-layered area R, and the non-fixed area R1 has stretchability in the diaper width direction.
