Particularly vegetable or animal oils from e.g. soyabeans, cotton seed press-cake, meat waste or fish meal, in which the material is fed continuously to a generally plane support surface, and is moved to a point where it is removed by a discharge device. During its motion it is treated with the vapour of a suitable solvent to recover the oil, in such a way that the solvent vapour condenses in and on the material and the condensate is collected and discharged and sent for further treatment without re-use.
