PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive method for cultivating a chinese yam, or the like, by using a drum and using waste saw dust after culturing mushrooms as a medium, easily taking out the yam, or the like, by turning the drum upside down in harvesting, capable of utilizing the medium as a fertilizer, without causing a waste and not necessarily requiring soil for the cultivating place. SOLUTION: This method for cultivating the chinese yam, or the like, is characterized by putting a medium obtained by mixing the sawdust, chicken droppings and cow dung, into the drum stood on the ground, planting 3-5 propagules, or the like, in its upper part, on reaching a grown up state, grabbing the drum with a hydraulic shovel, or the like, facing its upper part in lower direction, removing the medium in the inside and harvesting the yam, or the like.
