PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic calibration method of a scanning type endoscope system capable of giving a uniform calibration result free from variations by operators.SOLUTION: An automatic calibration method comprises: a light scanning step of performing light scanning by driving an actuator based on scanning parameters a scanning locus acquisition step of acquiring a scanning locus of scanning light emitted from a leading end of an optical fiber and an adjustment step of adjusting the scanning parameters so that the acquired scanning locus becomes a predetermined reference scanning locus.
