The envelope closure is unique in that the overlapping fabrics effectively hold the pet waste bags in place without the need for a zipper, hook and loop fastening or other mechanical closures or trims. The stretch fabric (for example neoprene or other bonded fabrics) are firm enough to hold shape and ensure the opening remains closed. On the opposite side of the bag holder to the opening, there is a small slit. The end of the waste bags (often dispensed on a roll, but not exclusively) is pressed through this opening and the waste bags are pulled through the slit as needed. There is a clip fastening sewn into the top edge seam so that the bag holder can be attached to a pet lead.
