A medical device comprises a surgical end effector (1, 20, 30) at a distal end of a laparoscopic shaft defining a shaft axis, a surgical procedure actuator (3) for carrying out a surgical procedure on tissue at the surgical end effector (1, 20, 30), and a rotating knob at a proximal end of the shaft. The rotating knob is operable to rotate the end effector (1, 10, 20) with respect to the shaft about the shaft axis when rotated, and to actuate the procedure actuator (3) when slid in a proximal direction.
