A medical device (1000) comprises a pistol-shaped handle (220, 1200), a laparoscopic shaft (226, 1110, 1130) extending from the handle (220, 1200) having a distal end and defining a shaft axis, a surgical end effector (1002, 1020, 1030, 1040) connected to the distal end of the shaft (226, 1110, 1130), a surgical procedure actuator (120, 1120) operable to carry out a surgical procedure on tissue at the end effector (1002, 1020, 1030, 1040), and a rotating knob (1100) at a distal end of the handle (220, 1200). The rotating knob (1100) is rotatable with respect to the shaft (226, 1110, 1130) about the shaft axis, and operable to actuate the surgical procedure actuator (120, 1120) when slid in a direction towards the handle (220, 1200).
