The invention provides for a medical instrument (100, 400, 700, 900, 1100, 1500) comprising an adhesive magnetic resonance imaging antenna (102). The adhesive magnetic resonance imaging antenna comprises: a flexible dielectric layer (104), a flexible cover layer (106), a flexible magnetic resonance imaging coil element (108), an adhesive pad (110) attached to the flexible dielectric layer, and an antenna connector (116) configured for providing a radio frequency connection to the flexible magnetic resonance imaging coil element. The flexible magnetic resonance imaging coil element is formed between the flexible dielectric layer and the flexible cover layer. The flexible dielectric layer and the flexible cover layer electrically insulate the flexible magnetic resonance imaging coil element. The adhesive pad is configured for adhering to a surface.
