Dry, semi-dry or semi-moist food products consisting of a centre part of low cost farmous or proteinic materials such as cereals, vegetables, meat or fish meal, are coated with a dispersion consisting predominantly of animal tissue, and then treated, e.g. by heat, to reduce the moisture content to the required level. The product may then be canned for sale. The coating layer may be 1-75 wt.% of the final products. The coating gives improved appearance and the taste to the product.
