1. A method for producing butyric acid, comprising inoculating a saccharinated lignocellulosic material with a microorganism of the genus Clostridium selected to utilize the saccharinated lignocellulosic material to produce butyric acid; maintaining the inoculated saccharinated lignocellulosic material under conditions that allow the microorganism of the genus Clostridium. A method according to claim 1, characterized in that butyric acid is produced using a fed-batch fermentation process. A method according to claim 1, characterized in that the saccharinated lignocellulosic material contains lignocellulosic material obtained by exposure to an electron beam followed by saccharification. The method according to claim 1, characterized in that the lignocellulosic material contains irradiated lignocellulosic material, characterized by a reduced stiffness compared to lignocellulosic material before irradiation. The method of claim 1, further comprising adding a nutrient medium to the saccharified lignocellulosic material. A method according to claim 5, characterized in that the nutrient medium contains an aqueous solution containing carbon and nitrogen sources and inorganic salts. A method according to claim 1, characterized in that the lignocellulosic material contains corn cobs or corn straw. A method according to claim 1, characterized in that the saccharified lignocellulosic material comprises a machined lignocellulosic material. The method according to claim 8, characterized in that the saccharified lignocellulosic material is machined to reduce its size. The method of claim 8, wherein1.
