The invention provides particles useful for sequential imaging or for diagnostics or therapeutics. Disclosed is a method to image diagnostic or therapeutic cells in a mammal, comprising: introducing to a mammal a composition comprising mammalian cells comprising mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) comprising a lanthanide, a fluorophore and an agent detectable by ultrasoundapplying ultrasound and/or a magnetic field to the mammal and recording ultrasound and/or magnetic resonance images that include the MSNs and detecting the presence, location or amount of the MSNs in the mammal.Linvention concerne des particules utiles dans limagerie séquentielle ou dans des méthodes diagnostiques ou thérapeutiques. Linvention concerne une méthode permettant dimager des cellules diagnostiques ou thérapeutiques chez un mammifère, consistant : à administrer à un mammifère une composition comprenant des cellules mammifères comportant des nanoparticules de silice mésoporeuses contenant un lanthanide, un fluorophore et un agent détectable par ultrasons à appliquer des ultrasons et/ou un champ magnétique sur le mammifère et à enregistrer les ultrasons et/ou les images de résonance magnétique comprenant les nanoparticules de silice mésoporeuses et à détecter la présence, lemplacement ou la quantité des nanoparticules de silice mésoporeuses chez le mammifère.
