PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel MRI contrast agent comprising a Gd-including polymer micelle, which is the one suitable for specifically imaging a solid carcinoma tissue, provided that Gd ions do not leak out from the polymer micelle.
SOLUTION: The MRI contrast agent comprises the polymer micelle as an active ingredient. The polymer micelle is formed in an aqueous medium from a block copolymer comprising a hydrophilic polymer chain segment and a gadolinium-containing segment and either polyanion or a polycation, provided that polyanion and polycation are used when the gadolinium-containing segment gets positively and negatively charged at polymer micelle formation, respectively. The gadolinium segment is a segment having a plurality of side chains containing amino groups, provided that gadolinium chelating agent residues are bound to some or all of the amino groups, either directly or via linker structures, and that gadolinium ions are chelated to some or all of the gadolinium chelating agent residues.
