The present invention relates to a depuration device configured to accommodate crustaceans and/or shellfish. The depuration device comprises an outer container (2； 23； 28) and optionally also a product holder (1； 22) in the outer container. The product holder is preferably separate and insertable into and removable from the outer container. The outer container comprises a bottom with a bottom plate (4； 26) and side walls. In addition, the depuration device according to the present invention comprises on one side an ascent channel (9； 24) and a descent channel (10； 25) connected to the ascent channel (9； 24), wherein the ascent channel (9； 24) is connected to a space (8) above a bottom plate (4； 26) and the descent channel (10； 25) is connected to a space (8) under the bottom plate (4), wherein the bottom plate (4； 26) is closed to the space below the bottom plate (4； 26) and is arranged at an incline in the outer container and is oriented at least partially, and preferably wholly downward toward a selectively closable and openable outflow opening (5) in at least one of the side walls and the bottom of the outer container (2； 23； 28).
