PURPOSE: A composition for preventing and treating neuropathic pain containing a ginseng originated saponin extract or saponin separated from the same is provided to apply the composition to produce health food. CONSTITUTION: Health food for preventing and treating neuropathic pain contains ginsenoside Rg3 denoted by chemical formula 3 as an active ingredient. In the chemical formula, R1 is Glc2-Glc and R2 is H. A composition for preventing and treating spinal cord injury contains 0.1-50wt% of ginseng originated saponin extract for the total amount of the composition. The composition for preventing and treating spinal cord injury can be produced into a form selected from: oral dosage forms including powder, granules, tablets, capsules, soft capsules, suspension, emulsion, syrup, or aerosol； and other dosage forms including external preparations, suppositories, or sterilized injection liquid.본 발명은 진세노사이드 Rb1 및 Rg3, Compound K, 또는 인삼유래 사포닌 추출물을 유효성분으로 함유하는 신경병증성 통증 예방 및 치료용 조성물에 관한 것으로서, 구체적으로 진세노사이드 Rb1 및 Rg3, Compound K, 또는 인삼유래 사포닌 추출물 각각의 중추 신경 손상, 말초 신경 손상 및 염증으로 유발된 통증을 억제하는 효과를 확인하였으며, 이러한 통증의 억제 효과는 에스트로겐 수용체를 매개하여 일어나며 또한 척수내 미세교신경세포의 통증 관련 인자 발현을 억제함으로써 작용한다.
