A securement device configured to secure an external portion of a medical device to the skin surface of a patient after an internal portion of the device has been placed in the patient is disclosed. The securement device includes a retainer that is employed to securely retain the external portion of the medical device in place. The retainer is attached to a base, such as an adhesive pad that adhesively attaches to the skin surface. In one embodiment, therefore, a retainer comprises a body defining a channel configured to receive therein a portion of the medical device, and at least one foot extending from the body that is configured to stabilize the retainer with respect to a skin surface.
