PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved sustained release delivery system and formulation for protein administration for the purpose of treating eye.SOLUTION: According to the present invention, a sustained-release pharmaceutical formulation comprises a single chain antibody Fv fragment (scFv) and hydrophobic polyester hexyl-substituted poly(lactic acid) (hexPLA). In one aspect, the formulation of the present invention is intended for ocular instillation into the eye of a subject in need thereof. In certain aspects, the formulation of the invention comprises a scFv present in a final molecular weight of at least about 1.25% (w/w). In another aspect, the formulation of the invention comprises hexPLA present at a concentration of at least about 1500 g/mol.
