The control unit has an error locating unit (1) that is connected with an external memory (4a,4b,4c) besides the field programmable gate arrays (5a,5b,5c) in a communicating manner. An error is differentiated into an internal error in the field programmable gate array and into an external error in the components. The control unit is reconfigured based on the differentiation result, such that during external errors the configuration of the field programmable gate array is actualized by communicating with the data. The data is required for the emergency operation of the components. An independent claim is provided for a method for emergency operation of components in a motor vehicle through the field-programmable gate arrays.
