PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To largely bend a bending portion at a distal end of an insertion portion of an endoscope by pulling a traction member on the side of the bending portion, and to reliably fix the bending portion while it is bent.
SOLUTION: In the endoscope which is equipped with the insertion portion 4 of the endoscope with the bending portion to be bent on the distal end side and an operational portion 5 which is provided on a proximal end of the insertion portion 4 of the endoscope and has a bending mechanism 9 for bending the bending portion and a locking mechanism 10 for fixing the movements of the bending portion, an annular member, which is provided on the bending mechanism 9 and is externally mounted on a pulley, has the shape that the outer diameter at a distal end side position where a part on the distal end side of an intermediate part of the traction members 32... is wound is larger than that of a proximal end side position where a part of the proximal end side of the intermediate part of the traction members 32... is wound, and a stopper 16 which is provided on the locking mechanism 10 and is brought into close contact with a spherical surface 15a of a part 15 to be fixed has a shape of expanding toward the side of the contact surface with the part 15 to be fixed.
