PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope having a bending mechanism which prevents traction members from being rubbed with each other and being damaged while bending a bending section of an insertion section of an endoscope.
SOLUTION: The endoscope has the endoscope insertion section 21 having the bending section and the bending mechanism 31 for actively bending the bending section. The bending mechanism 31 comprises a rotary driving pulley 34, at least one annular member 36 having an almost C-shape with a notch which is fitted outside of the pulley 34 with a small gap and is deformable elastically, the traction member 32 wound around the annular member 36 at middle parts 32a and having distal parts 32c connected to the bending section of the endoscopic insertion section 21, and an operation section 23 connected to proximal parts 32b of the traction members 32 for pulling the traction members 32. A winding start position A of the traction members 32 where the proximal parts 32b are wound around the annular member 36 and a winding end position B, from where the distal parts 32c wound around the annular member 36 extend in the direction of the bending section, are different in the width direction X of the annular member 36.
