A medical appliance for positioning the tongue of a patient during a medical procedure includes a suction device having a hollow, bulbous body and an opening for contacting the patients tongue. Depressing the body generates a suctioning at the opening, which joins the suction device to the tongue. A release valve may be attached to the suction device for releasing the suctioning force. The appliance also includes a retraction cord attached to the body of the suction device, which may be used to position or reposition the tongue to maintain an unobstructed airway. Optionally, one or more weighted clips may be attached to the retraction cord to further hold the tongue in a desired position. A method of controlling the tongue of a patient during a medical procedure using the appliance is also provided.La présente invention concerne un appareil médical destiné à positionner la langue dun patient durant une procédure médicale. Ledit appareil comprend un dispositif de succion ayant un corps creux en forme de bulbe et une ouverture destinée à être en contact avec la langue du patient. Le fait dappuyer sur le corps génère une aspiration au niveau de louverture, ce qui joint le dispositif de succion à la langue. Un clapet de décharge peut être fixé au dispositif de succion pour libérer la force daspiration. Lappareil comprend en outre un cordon de rétraction fixé au corps du dispositif de succion, ledit cordon pouvant être utilisé pour positionner ou repositionner la langue afin de maintenir dégagées les voies respiratoires. Facultativement, une ou plusieurs pinces lestées peuvent être fixées au cordon de rétraction pour maintenir la langue dans une position souhaitée. La présente invention concerne en outre un procédé de régulation de la position de la langue dun patient durant une procédure médicale à laide dudit appareil.
