Disclosed is the use of Linagliptin, a DPP-4 inhibitor of formula (I) wherein R1 denotes (4-methyl-quinazolin-2-yl)methyl and R2 denotes 3-(R)-amino-piperidin-1-yl, or its pharmaceutically acceptable salt for the manufacture of a pharmaceutical composition for treating and/or preventing of metabolic diseases in paediatric diabetic patients wherein the medicament is formulated for a daily oral dose of 1 mg to 5 mg of the compound of formula (I) and wherein said paediatric diabetic patients are patients with adequate glycemic control despite metformin therapy.
